Angola

Angola is a country in south-western Africa, bordered by Namibia to the south, the Democratic Republic of Congo to the north and east, Zambia to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The capital and largest city is Luanda, which serves as the country's economic and political centre. Angola has a population of about 35-million people and is the seventh-largest country in Africa by land area. The economy is heavily dependent on oil and gas, which account for the majority of export revenues and government income, though the country also possesses significant diamond reserves and agricultural potential. The currency is the kwanza. Angola is a presidential republic and a member of the African Union, the Southern African Development Community (SADC), and the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). The country gained independence from Portugal in 1975, followed by a prolonged civil war that lasted until 2002. Since the end of the conflict, Angola has focused on reconstruction, infrastructure development, and economic diversification, though it remains vulnerable to fluctuations in global oil prices. The government has prioritised investment in water infrastructure, energy, and transport to support long-term growth and improve living standards.
