Africa Mining Pip 2026

Africa’s mining project pipeline highlights where investment is advancing, which commodities are attracting attention and how different regions are seeking to convert mineral resources into productive assets. The continent has a vast mineral endowment, but a significant share remains undeveloped, reflecting the long, capital-intensive path from discovery to production and the infrastructure, financing, regulatory and technical constraints that can delay project development.

Critical minerals are driving renewed interest, particularly copper, graphite, manganese, cobalt, rare earths and uranium, owing to their role in electricity networks, renewable-energy systems, batteries and advanced manufacturing. However, Africa’s mining priorities extend beyond globally recognised critical minerals, with gold, diamonds, industrial minerals and other commodities continuing to support exports, revenue, manufacturing, construction and food production.

The projects covered in this report show varied regional strengths. Central Africa offers major copper and bauxite potential; East Africa has a diverse but still-emerging project base; North Africa benefits from stronger links between mining, processing and export markets; Southern Africa combines established mining capacity with reinvestment and beneficiation opportunities; and West Africa remains strongly anchored in gold. The broader challenge is ensuring that mineral development supports lasting economic growth, infrastructure, skills and industrial development.

This report summarises information published in Engineering News & Mining Weekly, together with information available in the public domain over the past 12 months. It does not purport to provide an analysis of market trends.

The information in this report is correct as of June 2026.
