US President Donald Trump, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other senior US State Department officials held a private briefing outlining the administration’s support for establishing independent US supply chains for rare earths and other critical minerals.

Its stated objective is to secure reliable, non-Chinese supply of the rare earth elements underpinning defence systems, electrification, robotics and automation

London-listed rare earths mining company Pensana was one of the attendees, with the company posited to be ready in the near term to supply rare earths to the US and allied nations.

“It was a privilege to be invited to Washington for this important Presidential briefing which is very supportive of our US mine-to-magnet strategy and Nasdaq listing,” Pensana CEO Tim George acclaimed.

The company’s Longonjo project, in Angola, is currently under construction, about 25% complete, with first mixed rare earth carbonate (MREC) production scheduled for 2028.

Initial production is for 20 000 t/y MREC with a planned expansion to 40 000 t/y in Year 4.

A heavy rare earth recovery circuit design is under way, targeting production of over 122 t/y of dysprosium and terbium.

Following the briefing, George discussed the company’s role in supporting the security of rare earths supply into the US with David Copley of the Executive Office of the President and National Security Council.
