Türkiye

Türkiye is a transcontinental country located primarily in Western Asia, with a smaller portion in Southeast Europe, straddling the Bosporus Strait. The capital is Ankara, while Istanbul is the largest city and economic hub. With a population exceeding 85 million, Türkiye has a diversified economy that blends industry, agriculture and services, with key sectors including automotive manufacturing, textiles, construction, electronics and tourism. The country is a member of the G20, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and Nato, and has a customs union with the European Union. Türkiye's currency is the Turkish lira. The government operates as a presidential republic. Major exports include machinery, vehicles, iron and steel products, textiles and agricultural goods such as hazelnuts, figs and apricots. Türkiye's strategic location bridges Europe and Asia, making it a significant corridor for energy pipelines and trade routes. The country has pursued an active role in regional diplomacy and development, engaging with both Western institutions and emerging-market blocs. Historically known as Turkey in English, the country officially requested the international community adopt the name Türkiye in 2022 to better reflect its national identity and language.
