Gediktepe mine, Türkiye
Name of the Mine
Gediktepe mine.
Location
Balıkesir Province, western Türkiye. The operation is about 90 km by road southeast of Balıkesir and 38 km east-southeast of Bigadiç.
Mine Owner/s
ACG Metals Limited owns 100% of Gediktepe. The mine is operated through its Turkish subsidiary, Polimetal Madencilik Sanayi ve Ticaret AŞ.
Brief Description
The openpit polymetallic mine transitioning from oxide gold/silver production to copper/zinc concentrate production. Oxide ore has been treated using heap leaching and Merrill-Crowe recovery. The new 1.82-million-tonne-a-year sulphide concentrator produced first copper concentrate on August 31, 2026, and is ramping up.
Brief History
Turkish mining company Lidya Madencilik developed the oxide operation, which entered production in 2019. ACG acquired 100% of the mine in September 2024 and started construction of the sulphide expansion in November 2024. Openpit oxide mining was completed at the end of 2025, with residual production continuing from stockpiles. First copper concentrate was produced on August 31, 2026.
Primary Metals/Minerals
Copper and zinc (sulphide concentrate products).
Secondary Metals/Minerals
Gold and silver are recovered as principal credits/by-products. Lead also occurs in the mineral resource, but is not identified as a saleable product in the current plan.
Geology/Mineralisation
Gediktepe is located in the Ören-Afyon Zone, a north-west-trending, low-grade metamorphic belt containing Upper Palaeozoic metamorphic rocks and Lower to Middle Miocene intrusives and volcanics.
Mineralisation occurs as north-west-trending massive-sulphide lenses hosted by greenschist-facies schists and has been interpreted as a syngenetic, skarn-related massive-sulphide deposit. Near-surface weathering produced an oxide zone depleted in base metals and enriched in gold and silver; the underlying primary sulphide zone contains copper, zinc, gold, silver and lead.
Reserves
Joint Ore Reserves Committee (Jorc) Code (2012) ore reserves as at March 31, 2024, were estimated at 1.4-million tonnes of probable oxide ore grading 2 g/t gold and 48 g/t silver. Sulphide reserves total 17.1-million tonnes grading 0.76% copper, 1.9% zinc, 0.82 g/t gold and 30 g/t silver, comprising 3.4-million tonnes proved and 13.7-million tonnes probable. Contained sulphide metal is about 290-million pounds of copper, 730-million pounds of zinc, 450 000 oz gold and 17-million ounces of silver.
Resources
Jorc Code (2012) mineral resources as at March 31, 2024, using NSR cutoffs of $19/t for oxide and $23.90/t for sulphide, were reported as inclusive of ore reserves. Oxide resources comprise 1.3-million indicated tonnes at 2.79 g/t gold and 67 g/t silver, and about 0.01-million inferred tonnes at 0.9 g/t gold and 23 g/t silver. Sulphide resources comprise 3.8-million measured tonnes at 0.99% copper, 1.9% zinc, 0.68 g/t gold and 26 g/t silver; 21-million indicated tonnes at 0.79% copper, 1.7% zinc, 0.76 g/t gold and 28 g/t silver; and 3.1-million inferred tonnes at 0.77% copper, 1.2% zinc, 0.53 g/t gold and 21 g/t silver. The combined measured and indicated resource is 26.1-million tonnes.
Type of Mine
Openpit mine.
Mining Method
Conventional contractor-operated openpit mining using drilling, blasting, hydraulic excavators and rear-dump trucks. Production benches are generally 5 m high, with selective mining on 2.5 m flitches where required for ore control.
Major Infrastructure/Equipment
Established infrastructure includes mine roads, pits, waste-rock storage, water-management facilities, an oxide crushing/heap-leach and Merrill-Crowe circuit rated at 840 000 t/y, and the new 1.82-million-tonne-a-year sulphide crushing, grinding and sequential flotation plant producing copper and zinc concentrates. The site also includes a tailings storage facility, process water facilities, workshops, laboratories, warehouses, offices and grid power distribution.
Prospects
The immediate priority is commissioning and ramp-up of the sulphide plant to full commercial production by the end of 2026.
A separate enriched-ore treatment project is being advanced to recover an estimated additional 57 000 t copper equivalent from stockpiles, and enriched material between 2026 and 2030, subject to permitting and development.
