Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia is a province of Canada located on the country's Atlantic coast. The capital is Halifax, which serves as the province's economic and cultural centre. Nova Scotia has a population of approximately one-million people and encompasses a peninsula connected to New Brunswick as well as Cape Breton Island. The province's economy is diversified across fishing, agriculture, forestry, mining, energy and tourism sectors. Historically, coal mining and steel production were major industries, while today natural resources including gypsum, salt and aggregates remain important. The province has seen renewed interest in mineral exploration, particularly for precious metals such as gold and silver, building on a legacy of historic mining activity dating back centuries. Nova Scotia's strategic location on the Atlantic has made it an important hub for shipping and trade. The provincial government operates under a Westminster-style parliamentary system. Nova Scotia was one of the four original provinces that formed the Canadian Confederation in 1867, and its name, meaning "New Scotland" in Latin, reflects its Scottish heritage and early settlement patterns.
