EDM Resources' updated mine plan garners Novia Scotia 'Industrial Approval'
TSX-V-listed EDM Resources has been granted Industrial Approval by the Novia Scotia Department of Environment and Climate Change on its updated mine plan and processing facility.
The company, which is also listed in Germany, plans to restart the Scotia zinc, lead and gypsym mine, in the Halifax regional municipality of Novia Scotia.
"Receiving the amended Industrial Approval is one of the most significant regulatory milestones achieved by the company since acquiring the Scotia mine in 2011. Combined with the submission of the federal Fisheries Act Authorisation application earlier this year and our ongoing prefeasibility study (PFS) update, we continue to make strong progress toward restarting one of Atlantic Canada's premier critical minerals projects," says EDM president and CEO Mark Haywood.
The amended Industrial Approval authorises the company's redesigned Scotia mine development, including modifications to the mine layout, processing facilities, waste rock and tailings management infrastructure and associated environmental protection measures.
These changes support EDM's updated PFS and planned 2027 mine restart, subject to receipt of the Fisheries Act Authorisation.
The Scotia mine is expected to become Nova Scotia's only primary zinc producer and will support the province's critical minerals strategy, which identifies zinc as a critical mineral supporting renewable energy and advanced manufacturing.
The Scotia mine restart is expected to create about 150 direct jobs during operations.
The amended approval follows an extensive technical review by provincial regulators and reflects the extensive engineering, environmental and permitting work completed by the company over the past two years. It also supports a modernised operation incorporating updated processing infrastructure and environmental management systems, Haywood explains.
EDM continues to advance project financing initiatives, discussions with potential concentrate offtakers and works to update the mineral resource estimate of the mine.
