Oklahoma

Oklahoma is a state in the south-central United States. Its capital and largest city is Oklahoma City. The state has a population of about four-million people and covers an area of approximately 181 000 km². Oklahoma's economy is historically rooted in agriculture, oil and natural gas extraction, and aviation manufacturing, though it has diversified in recent decades to include biotechnology, telecommunications and logistics. The state is a significant producer of natural gas, crude oil and agricultural products including wheat and cattle. Oklahoma is home to major energy companies and has a substantial manufacturing base, particularly in aerospace and defence. The state is governed by an elected governor and a bicameral legislature. Oklahoma was admitted to the Union in 1907, having previously been designated Indian Territory and later Oklahoma Territory. Its name derives from the Choctaw words meaning 'red people'. The state's central location and transport infrastructure make it a regional hub for distribution and freight.
