New South Wales

New South Wales is a state in south-eastern Australia with its capital in Sydney. It is the most populous state in Australia and a major economic hub, with a diverse economy spanning finance, manufacturing, agriculture, mining and energy production. Principal cities include Sydney, Newcastle and Wollongong, each serving as centres of commerce, industry and population. The state holds significant coal and natural gas resources, including coal seam gas deposits that have attracted exploration and development activity. New South Wales also hosts major industrial facilities, including steelworks and chemical plants, and plays a central role in Australia's energy market through its electricity generation and gas supply infrastructure. The state government oversees resource development, environmental regulation and biosecurity measures that affect agricultural and extractive industries. New South Wales borders Queensland to the north, Victoria to the south, South Australia to the west, and the Pacific Ocean to the east, positioning it as a key link in Australia's eastern seaboard economy. The state has a long history of resource extraction and industrial development dating back to the nineteenth century, and continues to balance economic growth with environmental and community considerations in its energy and land-use policies.
