Kearney graphite project, Canada

Name of the Project
Kearney graphite project.
Location
North-eastern Ontario, Canada.
Project Owner/s
Vertically integrated critical-minerals and technology company Global Battery Materials Corp.
Project Description
The project has indicated mineral resources of 29.2-million tonnes grading 2.10% graphitic carbon and inferred mineral resources of 33.8-million tonnes grading 1.90% graphitic carbon.
The preliminary economic assessment (PEA), published in July 2026, evaluates the brownfield redevelopment and restart of the prior-producing Kearney mine as a conventional openpit operation using contractor truck-and-shovel mining.
Mineralised material will be processed through refurbished and modernised facilities, including a flotation concentrator and micronisation facility, to produce graphite concentrate grading about 95% graphitic carbon. The proposed development will use existing infrastructure, transportation access and the previously disturbed industrial footprint.
The PEA assumes a 20-year mine life.
Potential Job Creation
Not stated.
Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
The PEA estimates an after-tax net present value, at an 8% discount rate, of $183-million and an internal rate of return of 67%, with a payback period of 1.3 years.
Capital Expenditure
Initial capital expenditure is estimated at C$65.9-million.
Planned Start/End Date
Not disclosed.
Latest Developments
The company plans to advance a definitive feasibility study as the next stage of development. Additional engineering, permitting, metallurgical and economic work will be required before a development decision can be made.
