Donald Trump

Donald Trump is an American businessman, television personality and politician who served as the 45th President of the United States from January 2017 to January 2021. He is a national of the United States and was born in New York City in 1946. Before entering politics, Trump built a career in real estate development, taking over his father's property business and expanding it into a global brand encompassing hotels, golf courses, casinos and residential towers. He gained widespread public recognition as the host of the reality television programme The Apprentice from 2004 to 2015. Trump won the 2016 presidential election as the Republican Party candidate, defeating Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, and his administration pursued policies including corporate tax cuts, deregulation, trade protectionism and the renegotiation of international trade agreements. His presidency was marked by significant tariff actions, particularly against China, and a focus on reshoring manufacturing to the United States. Trump lost the 2020 election to Joe Biden but remained a dominant figure in Republican politics and announced a campaign for the 2024 presidential election. He recurs in business coverage due to his administration's trade policies, tariffs on metals and other commodities, and their impact on global supply chains and commodity markets. His approach to economic policy, particularly regarding tariffs on aluminium, steel and copper imports, has had significant implications for mining, metals trading and manufacturing sectors worldwide.
