Anglo American

Anglo American is a global diversified mining company headquartered in London, United Kingdom. The company operates across multiple continents, with significant operations in South Africa, South America, Australia and North America. Anglo American is listed on the London Stock Exchange and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, and is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index. The company's core business segments include diamonds and premium metals (platinum-group metals, copper, nickel), bulk commodities (iron ore, steelmaking coal) and crop nutrients. Anglo American is one of the world's largest producers of platinum and diamonds, and holds substantial positions in copper, iron ore and metallurgical coal production. The company employs tens of thousands of people globally and generates annual revenues in the tens of billions of dollars. Principal subsidiaries and assets include De Beers (diamonds), Anglo American Platinum (the world's largest primary producer of platinum-group metals) and significant copper operations in Chile and Peru. Anglo American has been active in renewable energy procurement and power purchase agreements to reduce its carbon footprint and secure energy supply for its operations. The company was founded in 1917 in South Africa by Ernest Oppenheimer and has evolved through numerous acquisitions, divestments and restructurings to focus on its current portfolio of premium mining assets.
