More Power Isn't Always Better - Mixtec to Challenge Conventional Agitation Thinking at Electra Mining Africa 2026

For decades, specifying additional installed power has often been viewed as the conservative approach to agitator selection. However, advances in hydrofoil impeller technology are challenging that thinking. At Electra Mining Africa 2026, Mixtec will demonstrate how modern impeller design can, for suitable applications, achieve the required mixing duty while reducing installed power requirements.

At Stand B32 in the Blue Zone, visitors will have the opportunity to explore Mixtec's latest Hydrofoil Impellers and proven Dual-Pumping Technology, both developed to maximise fluid movement and improve mixing efficiency. By focusing on hydraulic performance rather than simply increasing power input, these technologies can help deliver the required process duty using appropriately engineered equipment.

With more than 40 years of experience and over 65,000 installations worldwide, Mixtec engineers every agitation system around the specific process requirements. Factors such as fluid properties, slurry characteristics, solids suspension requirements, shear sensitivity, gas dispersion and tank geometry are all considered before equipment is selected.

"Advances in hydrofoil impeller design have changed what is possible," says Jono Lyndon, Managing Director of Mixtec. "For many applications, we no longer need to rely on additional installed power to achieve the required mixing duty. The objective is to understand the application first, then engineer the impeller and agitator to deliver the required performance as efficiently as possible."

For suitable applications, this approach can contribute to lower capital costs through appropriately sized drives and mechanical equipment, while also reducing long-term energy consumption.

Visitors will also be able to learn more about Mixtec's Solvent Extraction (SX) Mixer technology, which has been supplied to hydrometallurgical operations supporting lithium, battery minerals and other mineral processing projects around the world.

As mining operations continue to pursue greater efficiency and lower operating costs, Mixtec believes the focus should move beyond installed power alone. By combining application knowledge with advances in hydrofoil impeller technology, agitation systems can be engineered to deliver the required mixing performance as efficiently as possible.

Visit Mixtec at Stand B32 in the Blue Zone during Electra Mining Africa 2026 to discuss your application with Mixtec's engineers and discover how the right impeller technology can make all the difference.
