Kazera highlights progress on HMS operations development

Aim-listed Kazera Global’s wholly-owned subsidiary Whale Head Minerals (WHM) has prepared an interim operational plan covering the plant and equipment requirements for the development of its heavy mineral sands (HMS) operations by South Africa AT Investments (SAI) at the Walviskop site operated by WHM in Alexander Bay, in South Africa’s Northern Cape province.

As announced last month, the first phase of the programme with SAI includes the preparation of a comprehensive mine plan setting out production and heavy mineral concentrate (HMC) grade targets, alongside planning for the plant, equipment, infrastructure and operational requirements needed to support increased production at Walviskop.

This interim operational plan comes while the comprehensive mine plan remains subject to further input and finalisation with SAI.

“We are pleased to be progressing the operational planning for SAI’s HMS operations at Walviskop following a site meet last week between SAI principals and WHM’s mine manager and designated professionals,” Kazera interim CE Richard Jennings highlights.

Current planning targets a progressive ramp-up to a production rate of about 30 000 t a month of HMC from the HMS plant, with production slated to start in early 2027.

Plant and equipment are being mobilised for anticipated arrival in South Africa during November.

The current estimated free on truck (FoT) sales price for the HMC is about $165/t to $170/t.

Jennings says that, based on current FoT prices, and subject to achieving the monthly production rates, the future cash flow profile of its WHM subsidiary will be “totally transformed”.
