UAE

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a federation of seven emirates located on the Arabian Peninsula in the Middle East, bordering Saudi Arabia and Oman along the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. Its capital is Abu Dhabi, while Dubai serves as its main commercial and financial hub. The country has a population of about ten-million, a large proportion of whom are expatriate workers, and one of the highest per capita incomes in the region, underpinned historically by oil and gas exports. In recent decades the UAE has diversified its economy into finance, tourism, logistics, real estate, renewable energy and technology, positioning itself as a regional hub for trade and innovation. Its currency is the UAE dirham, pegged to the US dollar. The UAE operates as a federal presidential elective monarchy, with each emirate retaining significant autonomy under its own ruler. It is a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council and maintains close economic and diplomatic ties across the Middle East, Africa and Asia. Government bodies such as the Ministry of Economy and Tourism support initiatives to attract investment and grow non-oil sectors. The country has increasingly focused on artificial intelligence, industrial digitisation and energy transition initiatives, engaging with African markets on electrification, grid modernisation and technology partnerships. Since its formation in 1971 through the unification of the emirates, the UAE has transformed from a modest trading and fishing economy into a global business and logistics centre.
