Tim George

Tim George is a mining executive associated with Carester, a South African company focused on rare earths and critical minerals development. He operates within the rare earths sector, which has become strategically significant as global demand for elements used in electric vehicles, renewable energy and advanced technologies continues to grow. George is involved in the development of rare earths projects in South Africa's Northern Cape province, including the Zandkopsdrift deposit and the Qala Shallows project. His work takes place in the context of efforts to establish alternative supply chains for rare earths outside China, which currently dominates global production and processing. George's activities include project development, stakeholder engagement and positioning Carester's assets within emerging infrastructure corridors such as the Lobito Corridor, which offers potential export routes for southern African minerals. He works alongside other figures in the South African mining industry, including Bernard Swanepoel, James Kenny and Simon Whyte, who are involved in various mining ventures in the region. George's role reflects the broader effort by South African mining companies to capitalise on the country's rare earths endowment and to attract investment in a sector characterised by long development timelines and significant technical and financial challenges.
