SEIFSA (Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa) is an industry body representing employers in South Africa's metals, engineering and steel manufacturing sectors. It acts as an advocate and service provider for its member associations and their affiliated companies, covering areas such as collective bargaining, labour relations, economic research and industry policy engagement. The federation's jurisdiction spans the broader metals and engineering value chain, including fabrication, capital equipment manufacture and downstream steel-based production. It is structured around a network of affiliated employer associations organised by sub-sector, with a central secretariat and leadership team that coordinates lobbying and negotiation on behalf of the industry. Key functions include representing employers in centralised wage bargaining with trade unions such as Numsa, producing economic and market data on the metals and engineering sector, and engaging government on issues including localisation, public procurement policy and industrial support measures. SEIFSA regularly interacts with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition and other State bodies on matters affecting manufacturing competitiveness and job creation. It frequently comments on developments affecting member companies, including firms such as ACTOM and SGB SMIT, particularly around local content requirements and industrial policy. The organisation has a long history dating back several decades as one of South Africa's oldest and most established industry federations. It continues to position itself as a key voice for manufacturing sustainability and employment in the steel and engineering sector.
