SEIFSA

Seifsa (Steel and Engineering Industries Federation of Southern Africa) is an employer organisation representing companies in the metals and engineering sector across southern Africa. The federation serves as the principal industry body for steel producers, engineering firms and related manufacturing enterprises in the region. Seifsa's mandate includes collective bargaining on behalf of its members, advocacy on trade and industrial policy, and promoting the competitiveness of the metals and engineering industries. The organisation negotiates wage agreements and working conditions with trade unions, most notably the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa), through the Metal and Engineering Industries Bargaining Council. Seifsa provides members with labour relations support, legal advice, training programmes and market intelligence. The federation also engages with government on matters affecting the sector, including tariff protection, infrastructure investment and skills development. In recent years Seifsa has focused on issues such as climate readiness, energy security and the impact of loadshedding on manufacturing operations. The organisation represents a significant portion of South Africa's industrial base, covering subsectors that include structural steel, boilermaking, automotive components and general engineering. Seifsa was established to advance the collective interests of the metals and engineering industry and remains a key voice in South African industrial policy debates.
