Manufacturing Indaba

The Manufacturing Indaba is an annual conference and exhibition series focused on the manufacturing sector in South Africa and the broader African continent. It is not a sporting event but a business gathering, bringing together industry leaders, policymakers, manufacturers and service providers to discuss trends, challenges and opportunities in the sector. Topics typically covered include industrialisation, energy efficiency, skills development, localisation, the circular economy and technology adoption. The event features exhibitions, panel discussions, workshops and networking sessions aimed at fostering partnerships and investment in manufacturing. It attracts participation from government departments, including the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition, as well as research bodies such as the CSIR and the National Cleaner Production Centre South Africa. The Indaba also serves as a platform for showcasing local manufacturing capabilities and innovations, supporting government efforts to boost industrial output and job creation. It has grown to include regional editions in other African countries, reflecting rising interest in continental industrialisation. Speakers often include government ministers, business executives and technical experts addressing policy and operational issues facing manufacturers. The event has become a recurring fixture on South Africa's industrial calendar since its inception, drawing increasing attendance each year. It plays a role in shaping dialogue around reindustrialisation and competitiveness in Africa's manufacturing base.
