GIZ

GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) is a German federal enterprise that provides international development cooperation and technical assistance services worldwide. The organisation operates on behalf of the German government, primarily the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, as well as other government departments, the European Union, the United Nations and private-sector clients. GIZ works across more than 120 countries, supporting sustainable development through capacity building, policy advice, infrastructure development and knowledge transfer. In Africa, GIZ maintains a significant presence, implementing programmes in areas including economic development, governance, climate change adaptation, renewable energy and skills development. The organisation frequently partners with governments, multilateral institutions, private companies and civil society organisations to deliver technical expertise and project management. GIZ's work in southern Africa includes support for industrialisation, manufacturing competitiveness, critical minerals value chains and regional economic integration initiatives. The organisation was formed in 2011 through the merger of three German development agencies: the German Development Service, the German Technical Cooperation Agency and InWEnt. GIZ employs about 25 000 staff globally, combining international development professionals with local expertise to deliver context-specific solutions.
