Dalian Commodity Exchange

The Dalian Commodity Exchange is a futures exchange based in Dalian, Liaoning Province, China, specialising in agricultural and industrial commodity derivatives. Established in 1993, it is one of the three major commodity futures exchanges in China, alongside the Shanghai Futures Exchange and the Zhengzhou Commodity Exchange. The exchange operates under the supervision of the China Securities Regulatory Commission and plays a central role in price discovery and risk management for key commodities in the Chinese and global markets. Its product range includes futures and options contracts for agricultural commodities such as soybeans, soybean meal, soybean oil, maize and palm oil, as well as industrial products including iron ore, coking coal, coke, steel rebar, hot-rolled coil and stainless steel. The iron ore futures contract, launched in 2013, has become one of the most actively traded commodity contracts globally and serves as a benchmark for seaborne iron ore pricing. The exchange uses electronic trading platforms and operates on a membership basis, with clearing and settlement services provided through its own clearing house. Trading volumes on the Dalian Commodity Exchange have grown substantially over the past two decades, reflecting China's position as the world's largest consumer of many raw materials. The exchange has also internationalised several contracts, allowing foreign investors to participate directly in certain markets, notably iron ore. Its influence extends beyond China, as price movements on the exchange are closely monitored by producers, traders and consumers worldwide, particularly in the steel and agricultural sectors.
