COMEX

Comex (Commodity Exchange) is a major commodities futures and options exchange based in the United States, specialising in the trading of metals contracts. It operates as a division of the New York Mercantile Exchange (Nymex), which is itself part of the CME Group, the world's largest derivatives marketplace. Comex is best known for its benchmark copper, gold and silver futures contracts, which serve as global price-discovery mechanisms for these metals. The exchange provides a transparent, regulated platform where producers, consumers, investors and speculators can hedge price risk or take speculative positions on future metal prices. Comex copper futures, in particular, are widely followed by the mining industry and financial markets as an indicator of global industrial demand and economic health. Trading on Comex is conducted electronically through the CME Globex platform, as well as through open-outcry sessions during certain hours. The exchange's price benchmarks influence physical metal transactions worldwide and are closely watched alongside those of the London Metal Exchange. Comex was founded in 1933 through the merger of several smaller New York commodity exchanges and has since grown into one of the most liquid and influential metals trading venues globally. Its contracts are denominated in US dollars and settled either financially or through physical delivery of the underlying metal.
