Centamin

Centamin is a gold mining company focused on exploration and production in Egypt, best known as the operator of the Sukari gold mine in the Central Eastern Desert. It is listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and the London Stock Exchange, with a secondary listing on the Egyptian Exchange. The company operates within the Arabian-Nubian Shield, a geological belt known for its gold potential across the Red Sea region. Sukari is one of the largest gold mines in Egypt and a major source of the country's gold output, making Centamin a significant contributor to Egypt's mining sector and export earnings. The company holds its mining concession in partnership with the Egyptian Mineral Resources Authority under a production-sharing agreement structure common to Egypt's mining code. Centamin generates revenue primarily from gold sales, with production levels and costs closely watched by investors given the operation's scale. The company has faced periodic disputes over licensing and taxation with Egyptian authorities, reflecting broader tensions in the country's mining regulatory environment. Centamin employs a substantial workforce in Egypt, including local and international staff at the Sukari operation. The company was founded in the 1990s and has developed Sukari from an exploration project into a long-life producing mine over more than two decades. Its leadership has included figures such as chief executive Vincent Morel, who has overseen operations and strategy in recent years.
