Canyon Coal

Canyon Coal is a South African coal mining company that operates collieries in the country's key coal-producing regions. The company is headquartered in South Africa and focuses on the extraction and supply of thermal and metallurgical coal to domestic and export markets. Canyon Coal operates multiple mining assets across Gauteng and Mpumalanga provinces, including the Khanye Colliery near Bronkhorstspruit. The company's operations encompass both opencast and underground mining methods, targeting coal seams that serve power generation, industrial and metallurgical applications. Canyon Coal is part of the Menar group, a diversified mining and minerals processing company with interests in coal, chrome, magnetite and other commodities. The company supplies coal to Eskom, South Africa's state-owned power utility, as well as to industrial customers and export markets. Canyon Coal has expanded its footprint through acquisitions and the development of new mining projects in established coalfields. The company employs several hundred people across its operations and contributes to the economic activity of the coal-mining communities in which it operates. Canyon Coal was established in the early 2000s and has grown to become a significant mid-tier producer in South Africa's coal sector.
