Arizona

Arizona is a state in the south-western United States. Its capital and largest city is Phoenix. The state has a population of about 7.4-million people and an economy heavily influenced by mining, technology, aerospace, tourism and agriculture. Arizona is one of the most significant copper-producing regions in the world, hosting major mining operations and substantial mineral reserves. The state's economy also benefits from advanced manufacturing, particularly in semiconductors and electronics, as well as a growing renewable-energy sector. Principal cities include Phoenix, Tucson, Mesa and Scottsdale. Arizona's resource base includes extensive copper deposits, molybdenum, silver and gold, alongside solar energy potential owing to its desert climate. The state is governed as part of the federal system of the United States, with a governor and bicameral legislature. Arizona's mining heritage and strategic mineral endowments make it a recurring focus in global commodities coverage. The state joined the Union in 1912 and has since developed into a major economic hub in the American South-West.
