Swartberg openpit mining project.

Location
Namakwa, in the Northern Cape, South Africa.

Project Owner/s
Diversified resources company Vedanta Zinc International (VZI) subsidiary Black Mountain Mining.

Project Description
The Swartberg openpit project proposes to increase mining capacity from 500 000 t/y to one-million tonnes a year.

Metal in concentrate will increase from an estimated 16 500 t/y to 33 000 t/y.

The project includes five satellite openpits. Its current mineral reserves and resources show a potential life-of-mine of 12 years.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create 100 to 200 jobs during the construction phase and 150 to 200 permanent jobs during the peak operations phase.

Capital Expenditure
Approved capital expenditure was estimated at $30.1-million as at April 2026.

Planned Start/End Date
The expansion project was approved in the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year. Project completion is targeted for the first quarter of the 2027/28 financial year.

Latest Developments
Overall progress was estimated at 25% in the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year.
