RMA Automotive South Africa (RMAA SA) will showcase its range of purpose-built mine-site vehicles and specialist conversions at Electra Mining Africa 2026, taking place from 7 to 11 September at the Johannesburg Expo Centre (Nasrec). The company will exhibit at Stand P39, outside, where the Toyota Quantum 4×4 Mine Bus will take centre stage.

Fully fitted and mine-site ready, the Toyota Quantum 4×4 demonstrates how a proven commercial vehicle can be transformed for demanding off-road and mining applications. The conversion uses a complete kit imported from EnduroCo Australia to transform the people mover into a four-wheel-drive vehicle, combining passenger-carrying capacity with off-road capability.

The permanent four-wheel-drive system, with high- and low-range selection, enhances the Toyota Quantum’s performance in challenging operating conditions, providing an efficient alternative to deploying multiple 4×4 pick-ups when transporting personnel.

The vehicle on display has also been configured with a HALO™ Rollover Occupant Protection System (ROPS), highlighting RMAA SA’s focus on occupant safety. A ROPS is a framework of engineered metal bars designed specifically for a vehicle to help maintain the occupant survival space in the event of a rollover.

RMAA SA offers both interior and exterior ROPS solutions for its vehicles, including HALO™ and Jadem systems, depending on the vehicle and the requirements of the mine site.

Also in the spotlight will be the Ford Ranger and Ranger Super Duty mine site vehicles, configured to comply with South Africa’s Class 3 Light Mining Specification. Key features of the Ford Ranger double cab include Spring Applied Hydraulic Release (SAHR) braking, which engages automatically in the event of power loss, an automatic fire suppression system, Kevlar floor protection, rollover protection, plug-and-play waterproof electrical harnesses and emergency-stop controls.

The Ford Ranger Super Duty is designed for mining and heavy-industry applications where increased payload and towing capability are required. Its reinforced platform is powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel engine producing 600 Nm of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive. It offers up to 4,500 kg of towing capacity and an 8,000 kg gross combined mass.
