New branch offers faster supply, better support to Zambian mines

PETER MBADA Multotec's new manufacturing and sales premises in Chingola, Zambia will provide technologies and services to the Zambian mining sector
Multotec Zambia, a division of international minerals processing specialist the Multotec Group, formally opened its new manufacturing and sales premises in Chingola, Zambia, last month, after three years of development and construction undertaken by construction and engineering contractor Zoncor Investment.
The facility will provide equipment supply, technical support, equipment refurbishment, spare parts, process optimisation and field services for mines in the vicinity.
By establishing a local presence, Multotec can respond faster to customer needs, reduce lead times, and deliver more reliable and efficient support, says Multotec International – Africa MD Peter Mbada, adding that the country’s growing mining sector and an increasing demand for localised support motivated this expansion.
The new facility demonstrates Multotec’s long-term commitment to Zambia by bringing expertise, technology and service capabilities closer to customers while supporting the country’s mining growth ambitions, he says.
The construction and development of the premises was carried out on two adjacent stands totalling 21 000 m2.
“The facility was strategically located to be close to major mining operations and designed to support efficient service delivery,” says Mbada, adding that while focused on Zambia, it can also support regional customers, including those in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Additionally, the facility will create local employment opportunities and contribute to skills development through training and knowledge transfer.
Investment Beyond the Mine
Mbada states that mining technology companies can contribute to a flourishing economy by investing locally, developing skills, transferring knowledge and by partnering with mining companies, contractors and educational institutions.
“These collaborations help build local capabilities, support economic growth and strengthen the mining value chain.”
Many mining operations in Zambia are processing more complex and lower-grade ore bodies while trying to retrieve higher recoveries and improved efficiencies.
Mines also focus on reducing downtime, improving plant reliability, managing costs and enhancing throughput in a competitive operating environment, he adds.
Multotec’s technologies enhance classification, separation and concentration processes, consequently helping mines to recover more valuable minerals from challenging ore bodies.
Process optimisation, advanced equipment design and ongoing technical support enable customers to improve recoveries, increase efficiency and improve resource value.
“Our priorities are to deepen customer partnerships, expand local capabilities, support skills development and help customers improve operational performance.”
Success, explains Mbada, will be measured by strong customer outcomes, increased local participation, sustainable business growth and the new facility's becoming a trusted hub for mineral processing expertise in the region.
“Multotec is excited about Zambia’s mining future and remains committed to supporting the industry through innovation, local investment and long-term partnerships. We believe collaboration will be key to unlocking the next phase of growth in the country’s mining sector,” he concludes.
