EcoPhi introduces Gateway Nano for remote monitoring of distributed energy systems

The compact data logger connects up to 32 devices and transmits operational data via cellular or Wi-Fi networks. Building on EcoPhi’s experience in more than 15 African countries, the solution helps operators monitor PV and other energy assets across geographically dispersed and remote sites. 

Karlsruhe, Germany – EcoPhi, a German technology provider specialising in monitoring and energy management solutions for renewable energy systems, has introduced its new gateway, the EcoPhi Gateway Nano. The compact data logger connects new and existing energy installations to the EcoPhi monitoring platform, giving installers, EPCs, system integrators and operators remote access to operational data without requiring a full local energy management controller. 

For organisations managing systems across large service areas, reliable remote access to data can reduce the need for routine site inspections. This is particularly relevant for PV and other decentralised energy installations in African markets, where technical teams may be located far from the assets and fixed-line internet access may not always be available. 

Remote access to operational data 

Gateway Nano reads data from up to 32 compatible devices via Modbus RTU and sends the collected information to the EcoPhi platform over Wi-Fi or a cellular network. Technical teams can therefore maintain a central overview of connected sites from different locations. 

Depending on the connected equipment, data from PV inverters, energy meters and other compatible devices can be brought together in one monitoring environment. Current and historical values can be visualised and analysed to assess system performance and investigate deviations. 

Access to operating data also supports more efficient service activities. Before travelling to a site, technicians can review the available information, narrow down possible causes of a problem and prepare the required equipment. This can shorten response times and avoid unnecessary journeys, especially where installations are widely dispersed or difficult to access. 

Designed for monitoring newly installed and retrofit projects 

The compact format makes Gateway Nano suitable for smaller installations and for retrofitting existing assets that do not yet provide centralised remote monitoring. It can also support operators seeking a consistent monitoring approach across a portfolio containing equipment from different manufacturers, subject to device compatibility. 

Gateway Nano is dedicated to data acquisition and remote monitoring and does not provide control functions. This clearly defined scope makes it a practical option for projects that require visibility into system operation without implementing a complete local control solution.
