Vedanta

Vedanta is a diversified natural resources company headquartered in London and operating primarily across India, South Africa, Namibia and Zambia. The group is controlled by Indian billionaire Anil Agarwal through Volcan Investments and is listed on the London Stock Exchange and the Bombay Stock Exchange. Vedanta's operations span zinc, lead, silver, copper, iron ore, aluminium, oil and gas, and power generation. The company's aluminium business, operated through subsidiary Vedanta Aluminium, is one of India's largest producers of the metal, with integrated bauxite mining, alumina refining and aluminium smelting assets. Key facilities include bauxite mines in Odisha and alumina refineries and smelters in several Indian states. Vedanta has faced regulatory and environmental challenges in India, including disputes over mining rights and community opposition to projects. The company reported consolidated revenues of about $12-billion in recent financial years and employs tens of thousands of people across its operations. Vedanta was founded in 1976 as Sterlite Industries and expanded through acquisitions, including the purchase of Konkola Copper Mines in Zambia and a controlling stake in Hindustan Zinc.
