PetroChina

PetroChina is one of the world's largest oil and gas companies, and the listed arm of China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a Chinese state-owned enterprise. Headquartered in Beijing, it operates across the upstream, midstream and downstream segments of the energy sector, including exploration, production, refining, and the transport and sale of crude oil, natural gas and petrochemical products. The company is listed on the Hong Kong, Shanghai and New York stock exchanges, with the Chinese state retaining majority control through CNPC. PetroChina ranks among the largest oil and gas producers globally by output and revenue, with operations spanning China and international ventures in regions including Central Asia, Africa and the Asia-Pacific. It has pursued coal-bed methane and liquefied natural gas projects, including interests linked to Mongolia and its coalfields such as Tavan Tolgoi and South Gobi, as part of efforts to diversify its gas supply base and support China's energy security. The company employs a large workforce and maintains extensive pipeline and refining infrastructure across China. It also engages in joint ventures and technology partnerships with smaller regional and international players in gas exploration. PetroChina traces its origins to the restructuring of CNPC in 1999, when the parent group listed a portion of its assets to raise capital and improve corporate governance. Since then, it has grown into a dominant force in China's energy sector, central to the country's efforts to secure long-term oil and gas supply.
