Namdeb Diamond Corporation is a Namibian diamond mining company engaged primarily in alluvial and marine diamond recovery along the Atlantic coastline and the lower Orange River. It operates as a 50:50 joint venture between De Beers and the Namibian government, mirroring the ownership structure of Botswana's Debswana. The company's main operations are centred on Oranjemund, in southern Namibia, where decades of land-based and coastal alluvial mining have taken place. Namdeb also holds interests in marine diamond recovery through related operations extending into Namibia's offshore waters. It produces rough diamonds that are typically sold through De Beers' sales arm, the Diamond Trading Company, for further distribution to international cutting and polishing centres. Namdeb is a significant contributor to Namibia's economy, supporting government revenue, employment and foreign-exchange earnings. The company has faced the challenge common to mature alluvial deposits of declining onshore grades, prompting a gradual shift of focus toward marine and deep-water diamond recovery. Namdeb's operations are closely linked to broader southern African diamond industry themes, including diamond traceability and the provenance of alluvial stones. Its history traces back to the earlier Consolidated Diamond Mines operations established in the area, later restructured into the current joint-venture arrangement between De Beers and Namibia.
