MP Materials

MP Materials is a rare-earth mining and processing company based in the United States. The company owns and operates the Mountain Pass mine in California, one of the largest rare-earth deposits in the world and the only integrated rare-earth mining and processing site in North America. MP Materials extracts, separates and refines rare-earth elements, which are critical minerals used in permanent magnets for electric vehicles, wind turbines, defence systems and consumer electronics. The company is vertically integrated, controlling the supply chain from mining through to the production of rare-earth oxides and alloys. MP Materials holds a significant position in the global rare-earths market, particularly as Western nations seek to reduce dependence on Chinese supply chains for critical minerals. The company is listed on the New York Stock Exchange and has received support from the US government to expand domestic rare-earth processing capacity. MP Materials has invested in downstream manufacturing capabilities, including magnet production facilities, to capture more value from the rare-earth supply chain. The Mountain Pass mine was originally developed in the 1950s and has undergone several ownership changes and periods of closure before being revived under MP Materials' ownership in recent years.
