Mitsubishi Materials

Mitsubishi Materials is a Japanese diversified materials and metals company operating in copper smelting, cement, advanced materials and electronic components. It is headquartered in Tokyo and forms part of the broader Mitsubishi group of companies. The company is listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange and operates across Japan, Asia and other international markets. Its core businesses include copper and other metal smelting and refining, production of cemented carbide tools, and manufacture of electronic materials and components. In the copper sector, Mitsubishi Materials holds interests in overseas smelting ventures, including a stake in PT Smelting, a copper smelter in Gresik, Indonesia, which processes concentrate supplied by Freeport Indonesia from the Grasberg mine. Through such joint ventures, the company secures downstream processing capacity for copper concentrate and participates in the value chain linking mining output to refined metal production. It generates substantial annual revenue across its diversified segments and employs a large global workforce. The company traces its origins to Mitsubishi's historic mining and metals operations, later reorganised into its present form as part of Japan's postwar industrial restructuring, and has since expanded into advanced materials to complement its traditional metals business.
