London Platinum And Palladium Market

The London Platinum and Palladium Market (LPPM) is an industry body that oversees the trading of platinum and palladium bullion in London, one of the principal global centres for trading in platinum-group metals. It sets and maintains the Good Delivery List, a register of accredited refiners whose platinum and palladium bars meet quality standards accepted by the market. The LPPM also publishes daily benchmark prices for platinum and palladium, used widely as reference points across the mining, refining and investment industries. Its membership includes bullion banks, refiners, producers and trading firms active in the physical and derivatives markets for these metals. The body works alongside the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA), sharing governance links and administrative infrastructure, given the overlap between precious-metals trading interests. Its remit covers not only platinum and palladium but has extended in relevance to related platinum-group metals such as rhodium, iridium and ruthenium, which are important in autocatalyst manufacturing and other industrial uses. The LPPM's standards help underpin confidence in over-the-counter trading, which remains a significant channel alongside exchange-based venues such as the CME, the Shanghai Gold Exchange and the Osaka Exchange. It plays a coordinating role for participants in an industry increasingly discussed in the context of critical minerals policy, given platinum-group metals' importance to clean-energy and automotive supply chains. The organisation traces its origins to the formalisation of the London bullion trading community that grew around historical metal-refining and banking activity in the city. It continues to be referenced by analysts, including bodies such as the World Platinum Investment Council, as a barometer of physical market activity and pricing integrity.
