Daniel Chapo

Daniel Chapo is a Mozambican politician who became President of Mozambique in January 2025. He is a member of Frelimo, the party that has governed Mozambique since independence in 1975. Chapo previously served as Governor of Inhambane Province, a role in which he gained recognition for his administrative capabilities and focus on economic development. He was selected as Frelimo's presidential candidate for the October 2024 general election, representing a generational shift in the party's leadership. Chapo won the election, succeeding Filipe Nyusi, who had completed two terms as president.
