Bunker Hill Mine

The Bunker Hill Mine is a historic underground silver, lead and zinc mine located in the Silver Valley mining district near Kellogg, Idaho, in the United States. It is owned and being redeveloped by Bunker Hill Mining, which is working to restart production after a lengthy period of care and maintenance. The mine has an extensive underground network developed over more than a century of operations, with substantial known and historical resources of lead, zinc and silver. It was historically one of the largest and most productive silver-lead-zinc mines in North America, and its output was long associated with the nearby Bunker Hill smelter and the Trail smelter across the border in Canada, operated by Teck Resources. The mine's strategic significance lies in its established infrastructure, existing permits and long production history, which reduce some of the technical risk associated with restarting operations compared with developing a new deposit. Environmental remediation has also been a feature of the site's recent history, given its long industrial legacy and inclusion in regional environmental clean-up programmes. The mine was originally commissioned in the late nineteenth century and operated for much of the twentieth century before closure, and recent redevelopment efforts have focused on dewatering, rehabilitating shafts and restoring processing capacity ahead of a phased restart.
