Boddington

Boddington is a large open-pit gold and copper mine located in Western Australia, south-east of Perth. It is operated by Alcoa's joint venture partner Newmont, though Alcoa historically retains bauxite mining interests in the surrounding region as part of its integrated aluminium operations. The Boddington area is significant within Australia's broader mining landscape, hosting both precious-metal and bauxite resources in proximity. Bauxite mined near Boddington feeds into Alcoa's refining operations, including the nearby Worsley Alumina Refinery, supporting the alumina-to-aluminium value chain. The site reflects the resource wealth of Western Australia, a state central to the country's mining economy. Boddington's gold-copper operation ranks among Australia's largest gold producers by output. The broader Boddington district illustrates how multiple commodities, including bauxite and gold, can be extracted from overlapping geological terrains. Its development required substantial infrastructure investment, including power, water and haul-road networks, typical of remote Australian mining projects. The mine has expanded over time through processing upgrades and pit extensions to sustain output levels. Boddington remains a reference point in discussions of Australian mining alongside Alcoa's regional bauxite and alumina operations.
