PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Graphite producer Volt Resources has determined that a one-month-per-quarter production cycle for its Zavalievsky graphite mine and processing plant in Ukraine will be the optimal scenario for the operation.

The company on April 11 started production of graphite following the winter stoppage, and plans to complete the current production campaign in mid-May.

As of May 5, over 700 t of graphite concentrate had been produced, including a record daily production of 88 t on April 26. Average daily production is around 54 t, with most of the graphite concentrate produced achieving between 88% and 96% purity.

“Zavalievsky Graphite is a part of our growth strategy, and positions Volt as one of a small number of ex-China graphite producers globally,” said Volt CEO Prashant Chintawar.

“We congratulate the Zavalievsky team for overcoming many challenges, including power and supply chain disruptions, and personnel availability, to execute our operating plan for 2023 and deliver a very successful restart of the operation. We look forward to providing further updates to the market as they become available.”

Following this production campaign, the company plans to conduct additional campaigns during each of the September quarter and December quarter, alongside continued execution of cashflow improvement initiatives.
