ASX-listed Stellar Resources has made a significant update to the mineral resource estimate of the Heemskirk tin project, in Tasmania, expanding the resource by 64%, or by 8.4-million tonnes grading 0.82% tin for 70 002 t of contained tin.

The upgrade brings the total Heemskirk tin project resource to 13.3-million tonnes grading 0.86% tin for 115 300 t of contained tin.

Stellar says a major highlight is the 125% increase in the indicated resource category, which now stands at six-million tonnes grading 0.84% tin for 50 739 t of contained tin.

Heemskirk remains the highest-grade undeveloped tin project in Australia and tanks third-largest globally among peer projects.

When combining the nearby St Dizier deposit, Heemskirk's total resource base now exceeds 129 000 t of contained tin.

Stellar is advancing a prefeasibility study on the project, which is expected to be published in the second half of the year.

The mineral resource estimate update was enabled by investment from ASX-listed Metals X, Australia's largest tin producer and 50% owner of the nearby Renison tin mine. Metals X remains a 16.4% shareholder of Stellar, which validates Heemskirk's potential as a Tier 1 tin project.

Stellar also continues to drill work on site to test immediate growth targets.
