StratMin starts commercial production
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Aim-listed StratMin Global Resources on Monday said production at its Madagascar-based Lohorano plant was now consistent at one shift a day, after the installation and calibration of a scrubber last month.
Following a series of trial production tests, the graphite exploration and production company expected to deliver output of 100 t of high-grade flake graphite containing carbon in excess of 90% during April, StratMin MD Manoli Yannaghas said.
On March 24, the plant at the Lohorano site, using the newly installed converted MechProTech scrubber, successfully completed its first day and overnight double shift.
Calibration of the scrubber led to the production of a trial batch of graphite with a carbon content of 92.69%, while testwork at the mine site in the last week achieved a carbon content of 95% on -80 mesh, or "fines" by using a secondary grinding stage at the mill.
The company expected to reach cash flow breakeven during the third quarter of 2014, Yannaghas commented.
StratMin was in talks with a number of potential customers for its graphite concentrate and expected to complete marketing agreements over future product sales in the next few months.
