Schneider Electric, a global energy technology leader, will participate in this year’s Association of Municipal Electricity Utilities (AMEU) Convention and Exhibition 2026, taking place from 4–7 October in Polokwane and hosted by Polokwane Municipality.

Under the theme Pioneering the Grid of the Future: Decarbonising and Digitalising Municipal Power Networks, Schneider Electric will demonstrate how municipalities, utilities, and distributors can take practical steps to build cleaner, smarter, and more resilient power networks.

South Africa’s, municipalities are faced with modernising ageing infrastructure while at the same time improving reliability, operational visibility and sustainability.

Schneider Electric’s participation at AMEU 2026 will focus on how combining electrification, digitalisation and automation can help address these challenges and create a more flexible and future-ready grid.

The company will also engage with municipalities, utilities, consulting engineers and other electricity stakeholders on the challenges they face today and how practical technology choices can support their long-term network modernisation goals.

“The infrastructure choices we make today will shape the sustainability and resilience of our electricity networks for generations,” says Nicole Malan, Power Systems Vice President for Sub-Saharan Africa at Schneider Electric.

“By bringing decarbonisation and digitalisation together, we have an opportunity not only to modernise today’s grid, but to also build the energy systems South Africa will need tomorrow.”

Ambition becomes action

Grid modernisation doesn’t mean replacing everything at once; each upgrade or end‑of‑life asset provides municipalities and utilities with an opportunity to add technologies that improve sustainability, visibility, and resilience.

At AMEU 2026, Schneider Electric will showcase how technologies and solutions can support modernisation:

  • SF₆-free switchgear portfolio - AirSeT range (RM, SM, GM) which supports grid decarbonisation while ensuring utility‑grade reliability.
  • Connected electrical equipment  that enables smarter monitoring and improved visibility of network and asset performance.
  • Condition monitoring which provides data for proactive maintenance, reducing downtime and enhancing resilience.
  • Digital solutions that assist utilities in making more informed decisions and strengthening operational efficiency.

Visitors to AMEU 2026 are invited to meet with Schneider Electric’s Power Systems team to explore how the company’s energy technology solutions can support their decarbonisation and grid-modernisation priorities.
