Rma Hosts High‑level Drc Delegation, Advancing Continental Collaboration On Worker Protection And Social Insurance
Rand Mutual Assurance (RMA) has concluded a successful engagement with a senior delegation from the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), following a working visit to RMA’s Johannesburg, Parktown headquarters. The DRC delegation was led by their Minister of Labour and Employment, Ferdinand Massamba wa Massamba.
The visit marked a significant step towards strengthening occupational injury compensation, rehabilitation and social protection systems across the continent.
The delegation met with RMA executives led by Group CEO Mandla Shezi, technical specialists, and programme leads for in‑depth discussions on how RMA’s proven operational models can support the DRC’s efforts to modernise its compensation and social protection framework.
REAFFIRMING A SHARED COMMITMENT
The engagement reaffirmed a shared commitment to worker dignity, recovery and long‑term wellbeing.
During the sessions, both parties agreed to explore collaboration across key areas of RMA’s existing programmes, including claims administration, employer compliance, medical management, rehabilitation, prevention, pensions, technology and fund sustainability.
“We have jointly agreed to explore collaboration across claims administration, employer compliance, medical management, rehabilitation, prevention, pensions, technology and fund sustainability,” says Mandla Shezi, Group CEO at RMA.
The discussions also included a joint assessment of the DRC’s current system to identify gaps and determine how RMA’s expertise could strengthen worker protection and improve administrative efficiency.
“This partnership demonstrates that South African expertise can help address shared challenges, especially those we have in our country. Their experience shows that when compensation systems are strengthened, workers, employers and communities all benefit,” says Minister Massamba wa Massamba.
The visit underscored the growing continental momentum to modernise occupational injury compensation, enhance rehabilitation pathways and improve long‑term outcomes for workers. It also highlighted RMA’s position as a trusted African partner with more than 130 years of experience in delivering purpose‑led social insurance.
RMA remains committed to working with partners across Africa to build stronger, more responsive social insurance systems that protect workers and contribute to healthier, more resilient societies.
