More than gold: DRDGOLD's women lead

At DRDGOLD, women are helping shape what a differentiated gold producer looks like, from reclamation and restoration to the value returned to communities and share-holders. We asked three women leaders which of these ideals has defined their journey, and why.
ERGO Tshedza Solar Operations Manager, Project & Utilities Engineer Claire Foley
"If I had to choose one value that has defined my journey at DRDGOLD, it would be returning value. Since joining the company as a bursar in 2011, every role I have held has been about creating lasting value for the business. As a project engineer, I helped develop new reclamation sites that extended the life of mine. I also contributed to the hybrid solar and battery project, improving our sustainability, and through my work overseeing utilities, reducing potable water consumption and optimising electricity use, which continue to deliver measurable benefits. Today, I value the opportunity to be part of the leadership team and contribute to strategic decisions that help shape the future of the business. DRDGOLD has invested in my growth, and I am proud to give that value back through meaningful contributions that support the company's long-term success."
Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Assistant Plant Superintendent Kealeboga Gouwe
"In the metallurgical laboratory, reclaiming begins at micro-level from taking complex and low-grade tailings and unlocking the hidden value within. For us as women, reclaiming means being present and actively asserting our roles in spaces we occupy.
Over the years I have learned that metallurgy is not only about extraction but also about environmental stewardship. The accuracy of the data we produce at laboratory scale contributes to restoring the environment and leaving communities safer.
I realise that we are visible examples for the next generation of women in mining. Returning value means leading with integrity and supporting them through mentorship, helping to turn passion into meaningful purpose-driven careers."
ERGO Human Resources Manager, Adelaide Ngubeni
"Looking back on my career, the ideas that have defined my journey most are restoring and returning value. People are the foundation of DRDGOLD's success, and my role has consistently been about creating the conditions for employees to feel respected, supported and empowered to contribute meaningfully.
These conditions are underpinned by our values, particularly our commitment to treating people with dignity, respect and fairness. Whether through employee relations, recruitment, training and development, employment equity, wellness initiatives or fair workplace processes, my role is to recognise and build on the value each person brings by supporting their growth and development.
The same principle guides my approach to community-based projects. Our communities are important stakeholders, and these projects provide a meaningful way for the value created by the business to be shared."
