McEwen COO retires, three VPs take over
TSX- and NYSE-listed gold, copper and silver developer McEwen has announced the retirement of COO William Shaver and new key appointments to propel the company forward.
Shaver will continue to serve on the board of directors of McEwen Copper, which is 46.3% owned by McEwen.
With McEwen's newest Stock mine entering completion in Timmins, Ontario, and construction of the El Gallo project in Mexico starting, the board thought it well to promote the next generation of talent within the company.
Channa Kumarage has been promoted to operation VP, Kevin Bromfield to development projects VP and Zahir Jina to permitting, government relations and sustainability VP.
The new appointments will be overseen by vice-chairperson Ian Ball.
McEwen is working towards production of between 250 000 and 300 000 gold-equivalent ounces by 2030.
In recognising Shaver's contribution to the growth of McEwen, the company has named a new ramp at the Stock mine the "William Shaver Ramp". Shaver dedicated more than 55 years of his career to the mining industry, of which four were worked at McEwen.
Meanwhile, Kumarage will be responsible for overseeing McEwen's operating mines, having held progressive leadership roles within McEwen, including director of technical services, where he was instrumental in bringing the Froome mine at the Fox Complex into production.
Bromfield, in turn, will lead the teams responsible for the engineering and building of Grey Fox, which is also within the Fox Complex; Tartan mine, in Manitoba; and the Lookout Mountain/Windfall mines - as part of the Gold Bar mine complex - in Nevada. Bromfield brings to the position a high level of technical expertise in the areas of mine construction, underground development, shaft sinking and continuous improvement.
Jina brings to his position 15 years of experience advancing Canadian and international mining projects through approval and permitting processes. His work experience includes stints at SLR Consulting and Wyloo, as well as Treasury Metals, Tech Coal and Anglo American.
