Flush-mount grids secure drains

URBAN DESIGN The LiBER GRID is Water Sensitive Urban Design-compliant with optimised flow-rate capabilities that integrate with modern sustainable drainage systems
For decades, property developers, municipal engineers and residential estate managers have battled with loose drainage infrastructure; however, LiBER GRIDS says civil engineers warn that the noise is merely a symptom of a deeper mechanical crisis.
LiBER GRIDS tackles the physics of this infrastructure failure directly at the source.
In South Africa, LiBER GRIDS notes, infrastructure theft is an epidemic. To directly counter this national challenge, the company’s solutions feature a proprietary, high-security lock-down mechanism. The grid is mechanically anchored into a heavy-duty, integrated frame using specialised, tamper-proof sheer-nuts to ensure that the grid cannot be pried loose or removed by opportunistic or coordinated vandals.
Access to drains using LiBER GRIDS’ solution, for necessary municipal or site maintenance, is restricted entirely to authorised personnel using a customised, proprietary LiBER GRIDS extraction tool.
This structural lockdown serves a dual purpose: it permanently suppresses the movement that causes the rattle, while rendering the asset “entirely theft-proof”, states LiBER GRIDS.
Elevating Precinct Value, Local Resilience
Engineered with a sleek, minimalist aesthetic, the LiBER GRID offers a flush and continuous profile that aligns with modern asphalt, concrete pavements or high-end paving blocks.
Featuring “clean geometric slit patterns and a sophisticated textured finish”, the LiBER GRID delivers a premium appearance ideally suited for commercial precincts, luxury residential estates and forward-thinking urban spaces, the company says.
Manufactured in strict alignment with South Africa’s Red Book guidelines and South African National Standards’ standards, the LiBER GRID is purpose-built to withstand South Africa’s unique environmental realities, from high- velocity flash floods to heavy axle loads.
The key technical parameters of the LiBER GRID system include International Organisation for Standardisation 9001 and South Africa Bureau of Standards-certified quality control for precision manufacturing to guarantee exact seating tolerances, “completely neutralising” the “sandpaper effect” of trapped road grit.
With dynamic load resilience, the LiBER GRID is engineered to specified load-class standards to withstand severe shear stress from heavy vehicle braking and acceleration without shifting or warping.
Each LiBER GRID comes with a 25-year structural guarantee and is Water Sensitive Urban Design-compliant with optimised flow-rate capabilities that integrate with modern sustainable drainage systems to protect precious topsoil and manage the critical “first flush” of stormwater pollution.
