Aim-listed titanium explorer Empire Metals has confirmed the scale and continuity of high-grade weathered central core at the Thomas prospect, as part of the Pitfield project, in Western Australia.

Following an extensive drill campaign focused on high-grade titanium mineralisation within the in-situ weathered cap to increase the size and confidence of the current mineral resource estimate (MRE), Empire says the central core extends over an area of 625 ha and to an average depth of 47 m in the in-situ weathered zone.

The company completed 178 drill holes for 9 816 m across the Thomas prospect, with the highest titanium dioxide grades having been returned to date.

Empire confirms multiple drillholes average, close to or greater than 8% titanium dioxide, with a peak sample having returned two metres of titanium dioxide grading 21.44%.

The company still awaits assay results from the Cosgrove prospect, which will, together with drill results from the Thomas prospect, support a significant MRE upgrade for Pitfield by the third quarter.

The current MRE for Pitfield estimates 2.2-billion tonnes of titanium dioxide grading 5.1%, for 113-million tonnes of contained titanium dioxide.
