The entry into commercial operation of the R1.7-billion Lephalale Solar Project was celebrated recently by Exxaro Resources and its wholly owned renewable energy business Cennergi. Located near Exxaro's Grootegeluk Mine in Lephalale, the 68 MWac behind-the-meter solar PV facility comprises 129 024 solar modules installed across 185 ha. The facility is designed to generate some 176 MWh of renewable electricity yearly and is Exxaro's first utility-scale, self-generation renewables asset to enter into commercial operations.
