AngloGold Ashanti appoints new nonexecutive director
JSE-listed AngloGold Ashanti on Friday announced the appointment of Paul Graves as an independent nonexecutive director, effective October 1.
Graves, who has more than 30 years of experience in global natural resources, finance and public company leadership, will also serve as a member of the audit and risk committee and the social, ethics and sustainability committee.
Most recently, he served as Rio Tinto Lithium CEO, following Rio Tinto's acquisition of Arcadium Lithium, where he was president and CEO, and previously led Livent Corporation as president and CEO and served as FMC Corporation executive VP and CFO from 2012 to 2018.
Earlier in his career, Graves spent 12 years in investment banking at Goldman Sachs, where he was a partner, and served as head of natural resources Asia and global head of Chemical Investment Banking.
Currently, Graves serves on the board of Charles River Laboratories International, where he chairs the strategic planning and capital allocation committee and is a member of the audit committee.
“Graves brings to the board a rare combination of international executive leadership, deep financial discipline and decades of experience across commodities and natural resources. His skill set and impressive track record will bring exceptional value to AngloGold Ashanti as we continue to execute on our long-term strategy,” said AngloGold Ashanti chairperson Jochen Tilk.
Meanwhile, the company is hosting a site visit for institutional investors and analysts across its consolidated Beatty Mining District in southern Nevada.
The visit provides on update on the company’s progress toward developing the newest major gold-producing district in the US, anchored first by the North Bullfrog project and then the Tier 1 Arthur gold project as the region’s cornerstone.
