As a merger between mining giants Teck Resources and Anglo American nears completion, the companies have announced the executive leadership team that will lead Anglo Teck going forward.

From completion of the merger, the executive leadership of Anglo Teck will comprise Duncan Wanblad as CEO, Jonathan Price as deputy CEO and chief strategy officer, John Heasley as CFO, Ruben Fernandes as COO, Ian Anderson as chief people officer, Lyndon Arnall as chief legal and sustainability officer, Alison Atkinson as chief technical officer and CEO of Crop Nutrients, Karla Mills as chief projects officer and Matt Walker as CEO of marketing.

Nolitha Fakude will continue in her current role as chairperson of Anglo Teck's management board in South Africa, reporting to Wanblad.

The companies also confirmed the regional leadership team responsible for mining and production under Fernandes as being Brock Gill as CEO of the Canada and US operations, Tony Power as CEO of the Peru operations, Ana Sanches as CEO of the Brazil operations, Dale Webb as CEO of the Chile operations and Mpumi Zikalala as CEO for the Kumba Iron Ore operations in South Africa.

Price says the leadership announcements mark a significant next step in the creation of Anglo Teck, which the companies are setting up to be a top-tier global copper producer with world-class operations and exceptional growth opportunities.

"This executive leadership team will provide strong continuity for the combined business and positions us to unlock the full potential of Anglo Teck as a global leader in the responsible production of many of the metals and minerals that the world is counting on," he states.

Wanblad, as the incoming CEO of the combined entity, looks forward to having highly capable executive and regional leadership teams, saying all individuals have strong track records of delivery.

The Canada-headquartered company will confirm its full board composition prior to completion of the merger, including official confirmation that Sheila Murray, current Teck chairperson, will chair the board of Anglo Teck, with Wanblad, Price and Heasley working as executive directors. De Beers CEO Al Cook will continue to report to Wanblad while the sale of De Beers is completed.

Wanblad reiterates that Anglo Teck will be one of the world's largest copper producers but will retain growth optionality across its wider product portfolio, including in premium iron-ore, zinc and crop nutrients.

The merger is expected to deliver yearly synergies of about $800-million by the end of the fourth year driven by economies of scale, operational efficiencies and commercial and functional excellence.
