Ambler Metals appoints president
Ambler Metals – a joint venture between Trilogy Metals and South32 – has announced that Ron Rimelman has been appointed president.
He will lead the completion of the permitting process and the advancing of plans for development of the Arctic project, in Alaska, in the US, and the pursuit of additional exploration throughout the Ambler Mining District in partnership with NANA Regional Corporation.
“Having been involved in environmental planning for projects in Alaska for many years, it’s an honour to continue leading responsible resource development in the Upper Kobuk as president of Ambler Metals,” says Rimelman.
“I would like to thank MD Kaleb Froehlich for his years of leadership of Ambler Metals. Under Kaleb’s leadership, Ambler Metals has successfully navigated a complex regulatory landscape to achieve significant progress for the Arctic project and has built significant support with stakeholders throughout Alaska.
“I look forward to working alongside our world-class team to successfully complete permitting for the Arctic project, which would create high-quality jobs and unlock significant economic opportunity in Alaska, particularly for local residents and shareholders,” he adds.
Ambler notes that Rimelman has more than 40 years of expertise in the environmental review and permitting of natural resource development projects across North America.
In his previous position as senior director of permitting, Rimelman has led the Ambler Metals team through federal permit application submission for the Arctic project.
Before joining Ambler, he served as VP of environment, health, safety and sustainability at NOVAGOLD Resources, where he spearheaded permitting for the Donlin gold project.
The company says his background in Alaska resource development includes previous work at the Red Dog, Kensington and Greens Creek mines.
Rimelman also served as president of the American Exploration and Mining Association and chaired its environmental committee for nine years.
“I am happy to congratulate Ron on his appointment as president of Ambler Metals,” says Froehlich.
“Ron's expertise in the environmental review process and deep knowledge of Alaska make him a strong leader to guide the Arctic project to the next phase.
“I am proud of the work we have completed in these past two years and the support we have built throughout every corner in Alaska. Creating jobs for Alaskans is a true honour. The future for this project and for Alaska, is very exciting.”
Froehlich will continue to serve as MD of Ambler, working alongside Rimelman to advance the Arctic project.
